If you can’t tell by the imagery, the October 2022 astrology has the feeling of a kaleidoscope. It’s beautiful and creative but doesn’t make a lot of sense. Light is being refracted in a multitude of ways that are hard to keep track of or make sense of, but amazes the mind nonetheless. Not everything has to make sense, and much as we’d like it to. Sometimes, there is beauty in the chaos. And, if you look closely enough, you can start to spot the patterns in the strangeness, too.
Here are some of the major transits coming up for October, which encompasses most of Libra season and the beginning of Scorpio season. As you can see, there is quite a bit going on, with planets both switching signs and switching directions, as well as the start of Fall’s eclipse season. Enjoy the view!
October 2022 Astrology Transits
Venus Enters Libra on September 29th: I know this happens in September, but it’ll be relevant for most of October so this seemed important to call out! Venus is at home in Libra so this is a fantastic transit for relationships of all kinds! Venus is also making quite a few connections to the transpersonal planets, highlighting the way your relationships are a mirror for your larger reality.
Mercury Stations Direct in Virgo on October 2nd: After a challenging Mercury retrograde, energy starts to shift forward once again. This may feel like the moment when the pieces start to click into place. A new plan is almost ready. Be wary of impatience, though. Mercury will re-enter Libra on October 10th. Until then, remain vigilant.
Pluto Stations Direct in Capricorn on October 8th: Pluto stationing direct in Capricorn feels like a boulder being rolled out of the way to reveal a dark cave. Are we ready to enter the depths? We may not have a choice. Thus is Pluto.
Full Moon in Aries on October 9th: While Libra represents unions and the way we balance out the needs of a duo, Aries is a more egocentric, individualistic sign. How are you being called to create boundaries between your relationships and your own needs and desires? Is your comfort zone being challenged and triggering a fight or flight instinct? This feels like a powerful spotlight on the people that matter to you and the way you reciprocate that love.
Mars Square Neptune on October 11th: This is two completely opposite parties coming into conflict with each other. Almost like West Side story, the Sharks and the Jets are meeting in the streets and duking it out. Mars is always up for a fight, but Neptune is more likely to drown you than throw a punch. Triggers for this conflict are likely to be related to disinformation or misinformation. Don’t let the rapid consumption of news, gossip, or DMs lead you astray. Things are not as they seem, even if it would feel personally validating if the gossip were true.
Sun Trine Saturn on October 12th: There is a sense of harmony to this day. You or the people you’re in relationship with will find alignment and compromise between what the ego wants and the system needs to thrive. This is the collective coming together in a way that serves both the whole, and the individual.
Mercury Opposite Jupiter on October 12th: We're using the last of our go-getter energy reserves to get our point across in a big way. This is a powerful moment, but also draining. Like walking a tightrope on live TV. The adrenaline can only sustain you for so long.
Sun Trine Mars on October 17th: An urge to speak out and speak up gets both a boost from, and softened by, a more diplomatic approach. You can be bold without being cruel.
Sun Square Pluto on October 19th: There is a situation pulling focus this week, potentially something symbolic of death or the death of a tradition. Witnessing this kind of last-gasp event or some kind of destructive influence is like a shock to you system. It may send shockwaves out in many directions, and knock loose any balance you’ve claimed for yourself this Libra season.
Sun Conjunct Venus on October 22nd: The Sun and Venus meet at the very last degree of Libra which is just incredible vibes! This is like the closing song at the bar, where everybody sings together because once the bar is closed you’ll all go your separate ways to your separate lives. Appreciate your people and the ways being with them lights you up.
Saturn Stations Direct on October 23rd: Saturn stations direct in Aquarius for the last time as it wraps up its time in its home sign. The planet of maturity, restrictions, and boundaries will be in Aquarius until March 2023. So we still have some growing up to do as a collective, but many of these lessons around systems and necessary innovation are becoming clear. Next year, Saturn will move into Pisces, and the challenge of integrating these lessons in a diffuse and distracting world will be a new challenge for us all.
Venus Enters Scorpio on October 23rd: Just after Saturn stations direct, Venus enters Scorpio. This brings a level of intensity to all the duos in our life. You can get more info on how that might show up for YOU in this past horoscope I wrote for Venus in Scorpio. The context is different, but the themes are likely the same.
Sun Enters Scorpio on October 23rd: The sun quickly joins Venus in Scorpio, the most intense of penetrative of all the signs. It’s still traveling in close conjunction to Venus and opposite Jupiter, so early Scorpio season has a magnified level of intensity, especially when it comes to the people we’re in relationship with at that moment. Beware oversharing. This smarts of competitive vulnerability.
Partial Solar Eclipse in Scorpio on October 25th: The level of intensity continues to ratchet up. Now not only are the Sun and Venus continuing to travel close to each other, but now we have the Moon in the mix, too. The Moon conjunct the sun is typically a New Moon which represents the planting of a symbolic seed and the start of a new, bi-annual cycle. But this is more than a New Moon. It is a Partial Solar Eclipse, which makes this a much more amplified astrological moment. It’s not great for manifesting. When I feel into it, the image that comes to mind is The Tower in the tarot: a purge. This degree of the zodiac is related to you taking agency for your own choices and power. Where have you given up agency in favor of peace? Today may challenge that compromise.
Jupiter Retrogrades back into Pisces on October 28th: After a sense of expansive energy permeated much of the summer, Jupiter’s return to Pisces for most of the rest of the year reminds us of our ability to be creative and generative without forcing and pushing. There is a gentleness to this kind of growth that feels good and sustainable, even if it doesn’t look at productive from the outside.
Mercury Enters Scorpio on October 29th: Mercury joins the party in Scorpio, lending a perceptiveness to the way we communicate and the ideas that shoot like spears through our mind. Scorpio asks us to shake off the superfluous, to drop all the filler words and polite small talk and get straight to the point. There is no time for shallow sayings when there is so much depth to explore.
